do you have to pay taxes on lawsuit settlements?

I was in a bad car wreck last year and it’s about to be settled. The amount that they are saying I will get is $50,000. The total amount of medical bills I paid was $33,440 and the lawyer is charging 25% for fees so he’ll be taking $12,500 off the top.

Will I have to pay taxes on the money that I receive from the lawsuit if it is being awarded to me for the physical damages I had and for the medical bills I had to pay?

DFS and car accident settlements?

I receive TANF and food stamps because where we live it is hard to get a job. I get a call from my case worker and she tells me that I need to get her the amount that we recieved from the car wreck and that I need to show proof what I spent it on. She told me that it was a source of income and that she needs the information. She said that it can do something with my sources that I am recieving. I had talked to a lawyer that I had about two yrs. ago and he told me that he couldn’t understand it and that he handles several just like mine and never had a problem like I got. He even told me that he couldn’t see how it was a source income either. I really need soem advice on this situation. I got two babies and this TANF and food stamps is the only incoem that I got in and I can’t lose it. I would really appreciate it if I could get some advice on what to do and maybe someone had the same problem and could tell me how to get this case worker off my back about the settlement money.

Working as a personal injury attorney in NY, You know theyve been wronged, whether its a construction accident, a medical malpractice case, somebody who falls in a building, all types of accidents. There are so many different types, but whichever one it is, the first thing you want to do is make them whole. Thats your job. Thats what they hired you for. And I take my job as a personal injury attorney in NY very seriously. They didnt come to me because they want somebody to sit there and push around pieces of paper for accident settlements. They came to me because they want justice. Thats the beginning. But when you get into the individual parts of it, whether its arguing an appeal, or trying a case, or cross-examining a witness, the justice part goes over here. And you stay focused. And, as a professional personal injury attorney in NY, you I focus on one thing, you I focus on winning. And you know you have a goal. Each time, its, maybe its just a certain part that you have to win, maybe its the whole case you have to win, but you keep your eye on that ball, and that ball is winning.
