i was in an car wreck saturday morning when some company dump truck ran a red light and hit my car. i was alright, just a few scratches, but i am more worried about my truck than my health. he was going at least 35mph. anywayz ive never been in a car wreck and i dont know how it works with insurance companies and all that. all i know is that it was his fault and i need a car to get to work. what do i do? do i get a lawyer or do i wait to see what the insurance company has to say?
i was hospitilised but wasnt seriously hurt, but the paramedics insisted i should go. we filed a police report of course and we issued a claim already and now i just dont know where to turn. i dont think i have enough money for a lawyer

Get the police report. On it the police will explain who was at fault. The report should also have both insurance companies (You and who hit you). Call the other’s company to report a claim. If your truck still drives get a loaner from the other guys insurance while it is being repaired. If the truck is totaled expect to get http://www.kbb.com private party value. You only really need a lawyer if you were seriously injured and hospitalized but a lawsuit of this nature could take 3 years. Usually the wrongful insurance company will try to pay you off with a lowball figure so dont sign any release papers until you get estimates.

If it wasn’t your fault, GET AN ATTORNEY RIGHT AWAY. An attorney will fight for your rights and get you money from the insurance company so that you can get the medical attention and rest that you need. Look in your phone book for an attorney. Some insurance companies, most notably Allstate, try to rip off victims of accidents.

Were the police called? If you have full coverage, your company will get you a rental car. If you have his insurance company’s name, contact them about a car. Was he issued a ticket? I could tell you more if I knew more. Good luck
